This historic Cape Dutch home dating back to 1850, is on the market in Stellenbosch exclusively through Pam Golding Properties, priced at R6.995 million.

A historic homestead situated in the heart of Stellenbosch’s student precinct has come onto the market  exclusively through Pam Golding Properties.  The property lies in the midst of the town centre, and dates back to 1850.

The Cape Dutch building encompasses two adjacent erven on Ryneveld Street, and lies alongside other historic landmarks such as the Andringa Road slave cottages - a location just within the limits of the University of Stellenbosch campus.  The 310sqm home, which has been declared a national monument, is on the market at R6.995 million.

The property has in recent years been run as a guesthouse, resulting in its grounds and out-buildings being beautifully manicured and restored.  The main house has five en suite bedrooms and several spacious reception rooms, while a further two suites on the property offer one- and two- en-suite bedrooms respectively.

The home is air-conditioned and surrounded by large trees which shade its serene garden, brimming with colourful flowerbeds and winding pathways.  “This property really captures the essence of Stellenbosch,” says PGP area manager Louise Varga.  “Not only does it have a classic Cape Dutch façade, but it is centrally located in the very heart of the historic student district, where the grace and charm of yesteryear combine with the fresh energy and enquiring spirit of the student population.”

PGP’s MD for the Boland and Overberg regions, Annien Borg, adds that the home provides ample accommodation for a large family plus friends and visitors.  “Whilst the property is not being sold as an active guesthouse,” she says, “there is certainly potential for this element to be developed again.

Alternatively, it could be utilised as upmarket student accommodation, particularly suitable for post-graduate students, lecturers and visiting academics.  Due to the diverse layout of the bedroom suites, there are many diverse possibilities, including renting out the garden suites as short-term holiday lets while occupying the main house.”
